ABOUT CHONTICHA

Chonticha is a Belgian-Thai painter and digital nomad, working mainly with gouache to create colorful, slice-of-life scenes. Since 2014, she has been living and traveling abroad, finding small sparks of joy in everyday moments such as spotting a stray cat or enjoying a quiet ritual, which continue to inspire her work.

Raised between cultures and without access to many simple comforts she longed for as a child, Chonticha turned to drawing as a way to build an inner world of joy and imagination. This early habit shaped her artistic voice, focusing on small victories, personal rituals, and moments of everyday happiness.

In 2013, she earned her degree in Graphic Design in France, choosing a stable path before pursuing art professionally. In 2022, she returned to her creative roots and committed fully to painting.

Ever since, she has developed her skills through years of daily drawing, personal study, and constant experimentation. Her learning process is grounded in observation, letting go, and a continuous curiosity about color and emotional expression. Her works can be found in private collections around the world.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings revolve around bright colours, quiet moments, and a gentle sense of play. I use gouache to capture small scenes from everyday life that feel personal and precious: slow mornings, shared meals, the calm of being alone, or the pleasure of dressing up in expressive clothes. Cats often appear as confident little disruptors, adding a hint of humour or mischief without disturbing the overall serenity.

I blend feminine figures with semi-abstract interiors to keep a balance between mature detail and childlike simplicity. My process shifts between dry textured strokes, soft washes, and bold blocks of colour, bringing life to compositions that at first seem simple. The touches of abstraction often appear when I’m trying to quiet my mind, stripping things back to their essence and reconnecting with the simple joy of painting.

I grew up without the safety or quiet moments I longed for, so I began drawing the world I wished existed. Over time, that imaginary space became a form of self-emancipation: a place where I could feel free, playful, and whole. Today, I continue to build that world through my work.

I paint everyday moments because they’re the ones that once felt out of reach. What seems ordinary holds real meaning for me, and through my work I hope to share that feeling. It’s an invitation to slow down, notice small joys, and remember that peace often hides in the simplest parts of life — always with a playful spirit.
