Plein Air Sketching Session to Unclog Your Mind

Overcoming fear, getting creative and launching my Youtube Channel.

Overthinking anyone? I've been thinking about plein-air painting forever. Yet I never was able to muddle up enough courage to do so. All kinds of excuses were involved: "I need to learn this skill first" or "I need to buy that equipment first to paint". And blablabla… But finally, something changed and here I am, plein-air painting while filming my first Youtube video ever.

Welcome to my first video

In this first video ever of my channel, I want to bring you with me in the forest to find inspiration for my sketchbook. Keeping a sketchbook is the best way to build your own visual language and artistic style, and in the future to create your own art. The journey can be overwhelming, so going outside helps in many many ways. Going outside to explore my surroundings is the perfect way for me to keep my artistic sketchbook.

Accepting Imperfections to find my style

Accepting that what I draw is imperfect and that I can learn to create better art and improve my illustration skills as I go, is key to building my career in illustration. Before I truly started drawing outside or doing plein-air sessions, I felt hesitant because I kept thinking about how am I going to set up my space, to bring my tools, how people are going to look at me etc.

Soon after I stopped listening to my anxiety monster and started getting out to draw and paint imperfect things, I realised how much I could benefit from just drawing outside. First, it is the perfect opportunity to get away from my various screens and electronic device to reconnect with my mind and focus on my goals. Second, it helped my find my own artistic style. Believe it or not, when you draw what you see, you are just creating your own visual language.

The experience was amazing.

Plein air sketching means soaking in the vibe

And it still is! In a way, drawing outside helps me soak in the place I’m visiting even more. Let's go out, let go of our mental barriers and draw freely. Everyone’s journey toward creating art or illustrations is certainly different, so I hope that my video will inspire you in some ways… to go out and explore, or to just pick up a pen and draw whatever your eyes see.

Thank you for watching!
